Entering into its third season, Saskatoon's PARK(ing) Day is set to take place on 20th Street West, from Avenue B to Avenue E, this Friday, September 19th, 2014.

Set in the district of Riversdale, this annual event sees participants take over vehicle curb-side parking stalls and repurpose them for more people-friendly activities under the umbrella of an open street festival.

PARK(ing) Day as an idea is designed to create the conditions for a great street festival while also highlighting a number of civic notions, such as:

1) Streets are public spaces.
2) Public spaces are for people.
3) Our current streets focus primarily on vehicles; they are not Complete Streets.
4) Parks and people-oriented urban design help beautify and enhance neighbourhoods.

Three years ago, Saskatoon's PARK(ing) Day got its start right here in The Two Twenty as a collaborative project between a handful of our members. Since then, Saskatoon's PARK(ing) Day has continued to grow and become recognized as a popular public festival in the city, one that is also helping foster discussion about well-informed urban planning and design here in Saskatoon.

Their parklette: Bring books to trade or donate and learn more about their "library al fresco" contest.

Metaamo Architecture

Their parklette: Solar exposure and shading and exuviating infrastructure.

Come to learn about how to improve the environment through architecture.

Upstream

Their parklette:  It's Upstream's birthday and they're celebrating by sharing a comfy spot to sit and enjoy some birthday snacks. Come meet them to learn about what they're doing to better the people of this city!

Sask Waste Reduction Council

Their parklette: SWRC is offering quick and useful information about how you can set up a proper compost system in your backyard. Knowledge is power!
